Dahlias

Dahlias come in all sorts of colours, shapes and sizes. They're easy to grow and flower for months over summer. With new releases, dahlias are having a resurgence of popularity. There are many small growing varieties suitable for pots.

Cultural Requirements

  • Fertile, free draining soil
  • Add organic compost and General Garden Food 150gm/m²
  • Full sun to light shade
  • Keep well watered during hotter months, do not let dry out
  • Plant with base of tuber at a depth of 15-20cm
  • Taller growing varieties will need staking - do this at planting time to avoid damaging tuber
  • For large blooms, disbud by removing all flower buds except those at tip of each shoot
