Now here's a plant that’s been celebrated in music and novels as 'The Lady of the Camellias' from both Alexandre Dumas and Verdi. Not only is it famous musically, but it's the very plant that gives the world its daily cheer in a "cuppa". Yes, one of the camellia varieties is the tea plant grown throughout the Indian subcontinent and beyond. Often known as the Queen of the Winter Plants, and named after the Jesuit botanist George J. Kamel, Camellias produce exquisite colourful flowers in winter, provide a hardy evergreen screen for neighbouring properties, and have a tidy habit. With around 300 species and 3000 hybrids there's definitely one out there that suits your garden.
